Hill goal gives Thackley friendly spoils
6:27pm Sunday 29th July 2012 in Silsden By Ian Whiting
Mike Garrod went close for Silsden in their 0-0 draw with Clitheroe
Thackley edged a derby friendly at home to Albion Sports as the local rivals continued their build-up to this weekend’s opening league fixtures.
With just a week to go until competitive action for the Baris Northern Counties East League Premier and Division One outfits, there was too much at stake to make this warm-up game a tasty affair.
Few chances and uninspiring midfield play made it a poor spectacle, with Adam Hill sweeping in the game’s only goal following a 63rd minute corner.
Dennyboys’ spokesman Mick Lodge said: “We had Nicky Matthews, Matt Mathers and Chris Davey all missing, which is virtually our full forward line.
“I felt we had all the chances there were in the game but that’s not saying a lot because it was a pretty quiet game really.”
Silsden played out a goalless draw at Clitheroe, who are a step above them in the pyramid system.
Andy Lee combined well with Mike Garrod for the first Silsden chance but the shot was saved. Clitheroe responded when Marcus Calvert had an effort saved by Christian Paulet-Briggs. Calvert, Oliver Deveny and Ross Dent were all close with attempts as the home side enjoyed a good spell.
It was better after the break for the Cobbydalers as manager Chris Reape made a few changes. Garrod and Tom Marshall both went close to breaking the deadlock.
Clitheroe created the better of the late openings but Silsden felt they should have had a penalty when Marshall took a tumble in the area under pressure from a home defender.
Liversedge edged another friendly derby as they won 1-0 at home to Eccleshill United.
Sedge’s Gibril Bojang grabbed the only goal of the game after 15 minutes.
Brighouse Town lost 2-0 to a young Huddersfield Town XI at home on Friday night, the visitors plundering a goal in each half.
