6:25pm Sunday 29th January 2012 in Silsden By Ian Whiting
The area’s two semi-pro clubs who have endured most postponements this season, Albion Sports and Silsden, were left sitting it out yet again at the weekend.
Albion should have hosted Bottesford Town at Horsfall Stadium but the match referee called the game off just over half an hour before kick-off.
Stadium manager Ray Walker said: “The referee turned up and said it was 50/50 and then he walked around for a while before saying it was off.
“It was soft down the middle but the rest of the pitch was fine. He said the ball wouldn’t have rolled evenly on the surface but I have seen games played when the pitch has been far worse.”
Silsden were due to be at home against Stone Dominoes. Cobbydalers’ spokesman Jim Rosser said: “There was a deep frost overnight in the Aire Valley so it could have been off for either frozen or waterlogged so there was no point in letting the opposition travel.”
Silsden have now missed four games on the trot since playing on January 2 while Albion have had five matches in a row called off, meaning their last run-out was on Boxing Day.
