THACKLEY came crashing to earth last night as their winning run in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division was ended at Bottesford Town, but there was better news for Liversedge and Albion Sports.

The Dennyboys had four strikers injured or unavailable and only two substitutes for their trip to Birkdale Park, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat.

Bottesford took the lead seven minutes into the second half from a hotly-disputed penalty, with the Scunthorpe-based side’s leading scorer Declan Bacon netting from the spot, and ten minutes later Ben Johnson scored their second to confirm the end of Thackley’s run of four victories.

Albion Sports, on the other hand, returned to winning ways after a run of five defeats as the Lions beat basement boys Clipstone 5-2 at Throstle Nest.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s men had the game and the points sewn up before half-time as they took a 4-0 lead into the break.

Danny Facey raced to a first-half hat-trick before Kesiolu Omolokum added Albion’s fourth in the 37th minute.

Clipstone made a game of it after the interval as Jermaine Jatau bagged a brace, but the result was never in doubt and Paul Beesley netted for the home side late on.

The defeat confirmed the Cobras’ relegation from the top tier.

Liversedge had to battle against relegation-threatened Parkgate but they eventually grabbed the game’s only goal. Sedge had a strike disallowed in the goalless first half and had a strong penalty appeal turned down on the stroke of the interval.

But Brandon Kane netted early in the second period to take Jonathan Rimmington’s men through the 40-point barrier.

Sedge remain in 13th place but are on 42 points.

Campion had to come from a goal down twice at home against Division One strugglers Brigg Town.

The Zebras are propping up the lower tier but they are not going down without a fight and took the lead at the sportsbulk.co.uk Stadium 14 minutes in through Adam Gowling.

The black and reds were level at the break thanks to Devonte Morton’s 36th-minute strike but the visitors edged ahead again just before the hour when Matt Steeper netted.

Talent Ndlovu equalised and Matthias Britton fired in Campion’s winner seven minutes from time.

Second-placed Eccleshill United missed out on the chance to put daylight between themselves and the clubs chasing automatic promotion when they were held to a 2-2 draw at lowly Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

Jonny Irving netted two headers to convert flag-kicks by Luke Harrop, but the home side equalised twice via Jack Wilson and Ben Grech-Brooksbank.

The Eagles remain second but only by two points when they could have opened up a four-point gap over Grimsby Borough.

Silsden were due to be in action in the Hallmark Security League Division One last night but the leaders’ re-arranged fixture at Bacup Borough was shelved for a third time.

The Cobbydalers’ visit to the Brian Boys West View Stadium was postponed due to floodlight failure and the problems the Lancashire outfit have encountered trying to rectify the problems during the recent bad weather.

Danny Forrest’s men were originally scheduled to travel to Boro on Saturday, December 2, but that date was washed out.

The second attempt to play the game - on the last Saturday of February - fell to a frozen pitch.
