NEW Silsden boss Danny Forrest believes that the new clubs in the Hallmark Security League are forging ahead of the Cobbydalers because they are on a roll.

The six clubs are all above struggling Silsden, five of them are in the top ten, with Charnock Richard and City of Liverpool both in the top three.

Forrest took over the hot seat at Keighley Road after beginning the season as assistant manager to James Gill, who was forced out after a poor run of results.

Forrest began his career with Bradford City and played for Barrow, FC Halifax Town and Guiseley in the top tier of non-league football, so has spent most of his time in the game at a higher level.

He said: “I’ve been around this level for ten or 11 months now and it seems that if teams go on a roll then it gathers pace and they do well.

“I know that momentum is huge in football at any level, but in this division it seems to mean so much more. I think that has helped these new clubs – that and the unknown factor.

“They have got promoted into this league, they are used to winning and they have found the right formula.”

Forrest and his new No 2 Matt McNeil hope to turn the Cobbydalers’ fortunes around after their poor start to the season.

He was also delighted with a 3-1 win in a West Riding County Cup tie over a young Shaymen side.

Forrest added: “It was very off the cuff early in the season, so Matt and I are trying to get a bit more of a structure about it now.

“But the inconsistency isn’t helping because the feeling you get when you lose straight after a big win knocks you for six.

"I’d rather we won three or four on the trot, even if they were scruffy 1-0 wins.

“I know that Halifax put a squad side out when we played them in the County Cup but it meant a lot to come from a goal down against a side of that quality and level of fitness to win 3-1.

“It was a big boost for our squad and I think it proved one or two things to the lads and gave us confidence.

"You begin to believe that you’re working in the right direction, and after that we won 6-0 at AFC Blackpool.

“But then we came crashing down with a defeat at home to one of the new clubs (Sandbach United 2-1) so there’s still work to do. It takes time.”
