HALLMARK Security League newcomers City of Liverpool scored in both halves at Silsden to bank another three points that keeps them top of Division One.

The eighth-placed Cobbydalers were hoping to dent the visitors’ charge but were on the back foot after Liverpool broke the deadlock early. Home keeper Callum Jakovlevs was hesitant in front of a long through ball, Andy Fowler having time to set himself before slotting in.

Silsden almost levelled from a long distance free-kick midway through the half, Josh McNulty’s superb effort swerving and dipping before hitting the bar.

The visitors’ Daley Woods was a constant threat but Jakovlevs denied him with some excellent saves.

A poor defensive back pass in the 56th minute led to the visitors doubling their lead from a corner, centre back Dan Dalton planting the header past Jakovlevs.

Cobbydalers’ spokesman Jim Rosser said: “We were a bit unlucky with defensive errors that led to self-inflicted goals and our two best efforts hitting the woodwork.

“McNulty’s free-kick was beautifully struck, and Leon Smith hit the bar at 2-0 after Josh Eastwood sent him through.”
