IF things go against them at the Angel Telecom Stadium tomorrow then Silsden could find themselves joint bottom of the North West Counties League Premier Division.

The Cobbydalers are third bottom, inside the relegation places now that the league has a play-off system, and they host basement boys Alsager Town.

Just three points separate the sides, although Silsden have a superior goal difference and two games in hand.

Following back-to-back defeats, James Gill’s side picked up a point from tight derby at Barnoldswick Town on Tuesday before their 7-1 West Riding County Cup semi-final thrashing from Harrogate Town last night.

Silsden put in spirited performance in that clash, and the Cobbydalers’ keeper Danny Thorpe, although he was beaten seven times, had a good game.

The damage was done inside the opening half hour as the National North promotion-chasers raced to into a 4-0 lead. Jack Emmett opened the scoring before Harry Cotes added a second when he headed home from a corner.

Goals from Andy Gascoigne and Tom Platt inside two minutes took the tie away from the visitors who will now focus on their battle to avoid relegation from the North West Counties Premier Division.

Into the second half there was some joy for Silsden as Fred Midgley netted a reply but soon after the hour mark Jordan Thewlis restored Town’s four goal advantage and a late brace from Dominic Knowles underlined the home side’s emphatic win.
