Bootle 4 Silsden 0

A first-half hat-trick from Bootle’s Dominic Marie put the brakes on Silsden’s revival last night as the Cobbydalers slumped to a heavy defeat in their second game in three days.

The Cobbydalers gave new boss James Gill his first victory on Tuesday with a 2-0 home win over AFC Liverpool but a trip to Merseyside last night saw them unable to build on that in their fight to stay in the North West Counties Premier Division.

With a makeshift line-up, the Cobbydalers found themselves a goal down after just 11 minutes. Marie opened the scoring, on his 21st birthday, when he took a through ball from man of the match Josh Hamilton and slotted past  keeper Ed Hall.

Hamilton provided the assist for Marie’s second just before the half-hour but the striker claimed all the credit when he netted his third with an excellent curling shot from outside the area, which left Hall flat-footed.

In the second half, the Cobbydalers’ former Bradford City striker Danny Forrest forced a superb save out of the home keeper but, just after the hour, Marie turned provider as he played in substitute Jackson Ellis for the fourth goal.

Cobbydalers spokesman Jim Rosser said: “The lads did well, very, very well. But having that game on Tuesday made it hard for them and Bootle just hit form on the night.

“It was a great effort all-round effort but it was just a game too far and we move on to Saturday.”

Silsden visit Congleton Town tomorrow.
