SILSDEN make the short foray into Lancashire to take on Nelson in the North West Counties League Premier Division on Saturday, and their tails should be up after their midweek cup win.

The Cobbydalers beat Thackley 3-2, thanks to a first-half hat-trick from Wayne Morrison – his first goals for the club since signing from Barnoldswick Town.

That away win booked them a semi-final in the West Riding County Cup with National League outfit Harrogate Town.

Tuesday’s victory was a rare away success for the Cobbydalers, who have picked up only five points from a possible 27 on the road in the league.

Their hosts are strong on their own patch and have won four and drawn one of their eight home games so far, but they are bottom of the form table after a run of five defeats.

The Cobbydalers have three wins and a draw in their last six. Their spokesman Jim Rosser said: “The forecast isn’t as bad as expected so we might be all right, but Nelson are another club like us with their ground close to a river."

Looking back to the cup clash with Thackley, Rosser added: "It was a good win for us on Tuesday, but we sat back and they (Thackley) had the best of it in the second half.

"I don’t know why we did that – maybe it was just because it was a game between two rusty sides after recent postponements.”
