North West Counties League Premier Division: Winsford United 1 Silsden 1
THE Cobbydalers lifted themselves out of the relegation places with a hard-earned draw but they are only out of the bottom three on goal difference.
Winsford broke the deadlock in just the sixth minute after a foul by Jack Brookes.
The resulting free-kick was delivered into the area, and Sam Cook headed past visiting keeper Danny Thorpe.
Silsden had chances, Wayne Morrison heading just wide and Oliver Hunter sending in a good shot, but the first half belonged to the home side, while in the second half there were good chances for both sides as the game opened up.
The only one that was taken was when Hunter’s header from Nicky McNally’s 67th-minute corner was parried by Winsford keeper Dale Latham, and Kev Ryan slotted in for the Cobbydalers.
Silsden spokesman Jim Rosser said: “Being out of the relegation places on goal difference tells it all really.
"It was a good point and 1-1 was a fair result with the squad we had available.
“We battled back after a poor first half but it was a game between two struggling sides to be honest.”
