Consett 2 Silsden 1
SILSDEN’S interest in this season’s FA Vase was ended by a clinical Consett side at Belle View.
The home side took the lead after just 15 seconds when Michael Mackay finished clinically after collecting Chris Moore’s lay-off.
It was the only goal of the first half but most of the credit for that went to Cobbydalers’ keeper Dannny Thorpe.
Consett doubled their advantage through an early second-half penalty. A penetrating run by Matty Slocombe was ended by a foul and Mackay stepped forward to slot home from the spot.
Ben Crabtree netted a superb free-kick for Silsden eight minutes from time but Consett hung on.
Silsden spokesman Kevin Knappy said: “It is a 4G surface up there but it played well and they are a very good side.
"We didn’t play well in the first half and Danny kept us in it but once Ben hit that late free-kick it was game on. They probably deserved to go through though.”
