BRIGHOUSE Town became the first of the local sides to make progress in the West Riding County Cup when they won 2-1 at Harrogate Railway Athletic tonight.

The clubs were due to meet on the same night in the Evo-Stik Division One North but the league clash at Station View was shelved for the cup tie. The home side took an early lead through Steve Bromley and they held that advantage until the break.

Brighouse came back in the second half and Martin Alison equalised with a free-kick from the edge of the area before a solo effort from Shaquille Clarke-Adams won it. Town will be away at either Silsden or Barnoldswick Town in the second round.

Silsden are in action tomorrow night as they welcome AFC Blackpool in the North West Counties Premier Division.

Thackley and Liversedge are both in Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division action. New Thackley head coach Lee Duxbury will be hoping to win his first home game but faces a tough test as Tadcaster Albion are the visitors, while Liversedge travel to Retford United.

Brighouse’s divisional rivals Farsley have a tough league game as they travel to Droylsden. Farsley dropped to sixth after defeat on Saturday, while Droylsden climbed to second following a 3-1 victory at Brighouse. However, Farsley would leapfrog their hosts with a win.
