Glossop North End 3, Silsden 0

Silsden were well beaten by a much more experienced Glossop North End side but they showed resolve right until the final whistle in this North West Counties League Premier Division match.

The home side broke the deadlock following a quick break midway through the first half.

The move appeared to have broken down but the ball squirmed through to Tom Bailey, and he fired in.

Bailey was denied minutes later by the Cobbydalers’ keeper Ed Hall but he did manage to bag a brace.

Not long after the hour mark, Bailey was set on his way by a through ball after a pass had been intercepted on the halfway line, and he rounded Hall to score.

Promotion-chasing Glossop’s third came just into stoppage time as substitute Alex Byrne’s cross floated straight in.

Cobbydalers’ spokesman Jim Rosser said: “We were left disappointed, and the last-minute goal made it look worse but they are a very strong side.

"They have players like Lincoln Adams in their side, and in comparison our lads are very inexperienced.

“It was men against boys at times but fortunately for us the other results at the bottom haven’t done us any harm.”
