Non-league weekend previews
For most of the season there were three local clubs contesting the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division title but that is down to just one now after Albion Sports and Thackley fell away.
Brighouse are still challenging for top spot and the one promotion place that goes with it, despite being held to a 0-0 draw in midweek by mid-table Heanor Town.
Paul Quinn’s men are at home again on Saturday when Leeds-based Garforth Town make the short journey.
Ten points off the summit and with six games in hand on leaders Tadcaster Albion, the home side will be expecting to get back to winning ways against Garforth, who, with only nine games remaining, have had a disappointing season following a good start.
Albion Sports’ recent form has been erratic but they host Long Eaton United looking for the win that would take them through the 60-point barrier for the season and keep them just ahead of local rivals Thackley.
Long Eaton may be five places below Albion but the points gap is only two and they have two games in hand so would leapfrog their hosts with a victory.
Thackley, like Albion, are playing for a top-eight finish and qualification for next season’s President’s Cup and they are at home to Retford United.
The Nottingham outfit are just two points adrift of the Dennyboys so Lee Clapham’s men need a result to avoid being overtaken.
Liversedge are on the road but the strugglers could climb two places with a win at second-from-bottom Nostell MW. However, they will not be taking anything for granted despite their host’s plight.
Nostell are four points off safety but they had a memorable win over Bridlington in midweek.
There is a top-seven clash in Division One, with sixth-placed Shirebrook Town hosting Eccleshill United, who are immediately below them in the table.
The carrot for the Eagles is that an away win would take them level on points with Shirebrook and they would still have two games in hand.
Silsden have home advantage in the North West Counties top tier when they host Congleton Town.
