Silsden pay heavy Price for first-half sending-off
6:58pm Sunday 10th March 2013 in Silsden By Ian Whiting
Scott Price, left, saw red for Silsden
Ten-man Silsden slumped to a 4-0 defeat at Wigan Robin Park on Saturday.
Midfielder Scott Price picked up a straight red card on the stroke of half-time and they were overrun after the break.
The Cobbydalers were only 1-0 down when Price was given his marching orders but even then they had been living on their nerves.
The home side always looked capable of causing problems for the beleaguered visitors’ defence.
Price’s afternoon began in very positive fashion as he struck the home side’s bar with an eighth-minute cross-cum-shot.
Cobbydalers’ keeper Ed Hall was soon being tested as Wigan responded well.
And it was the home side who broke the deadlock in the 35th minute from the penalty spot after Josh McNulty had been guilty of a poor challenge. Bustling forward Ryan Small took the responsibility and drilled the ball past Hall.
The visitors went into the interval a man down after Price was sent off in first-half stoppage time.
Having lost control of the ball in the centre circle, Price made a lunging attempt to win it back but his studs were showing and the opponent was injured.
Dean Calloway pounced on a poor pass early in the second half before dispatching a terrific shot past Hall to double the home side’s lead.
Just after the hour Small doubled his personal tally after good work from Stephen Kaye.
Wigan netted a fourth in the 77th minute when Silsden’s defences were laid bare once more, home substitute Kev Clarkson helping himself to an easy goal.
