Newton okay with Sunday service
Liversedge's season may have petered out over the last month after winning the President's Cup at the beginning of April but it has not been a case of the squad just winding down after the main event.
Boss Steve Newton has been hampered by a glut of late injuries, while some players are in the hunt for more honours with their Sunday clubs.
He said: "What has been a drain on the squad this last fortnight has been players looking at semi-finals, finals and even championship-clinching games for their Sunday League clubs.
"I can't blame them at all for that. If our season is
petering out then good luck to the lads if they can pick up medals for winning things elsewhere. You have to be realistic and
reasonable.
"We aren't full-time, we aren't paying good money and we haven't got players on contracts.
"Clubs like ours exist hand-in-hand with amateur clubs and we like to maintain that special relationship because it is a source of players for us.
"These lads are not in the game to earn a vast living, they are in it to win things and have mementos to look back on.
"It wouldn't be in our
interests to stand in their way so I say best of luck to them because they have given all they can to our club over the whole ten months of the season."
After looking like serious title contenders earlier in the season, Sedge will end the season in fourth spot.
Newton said: "It wasn't what we wanted. At one stage I thought we would claim the runners-up spot but it
wasn't to be. At least we did end up, whatever happens today at Shirebrook Town, in the top four.
"After spending all season in there it would have been a real shame for the club if we had just dropped out in the last week.
"If we had a 25-goal striker at our disposal we would have done even better as a lack of goals has cost us.
"The trouble is every club is looking for that elusive
prolific forward."
