    Poor defence proves costly

Nostell Miners Welfare 3, Liversedge 1

Liversedge's hopes of reclaiming runners-up spot in the Northern Counties East Premier Division took a huge battering as they slumped to defeat at Nostell courtesy of some poor defending.

Sedge's back four looked all at sea when a 17th-minute corner was whipped in and Paul Bedford was credited with the goal.

Liversedge's problems have come at the other end for most of the season, a lack of goals usually costing them. However, they carved out a good chance soon after falling behind. Nicky Boshell provided a superb cross but Luke Sherman's header was off target.

Nostell made the most off the let-off and broke for Neil Beardsmore to slot in their second, although Sedge were back in the game before the half hour when Sherman atoned for his earlier miss. This time the cross came form Liam Roche and Sherman planted his header back across the keeper.

There was to be no comeback though as Nostell killed the contest just seven minutes after the interval. A long clearance from the keeper was flicked into the area and there was some more unconvincing defending before Francis Johnson lashed in from ten yards.
