Liversedge may be still in the top three of the NCE Premier Division and looking forward to a two-legged President's Cup final but the results have tailed off and manager Steve Newton has a theory why.
The Clayborn outfit have worked hard on the field and behind the scenes but not enough to satisfy the UniBond League. Even if Sedge finish in a promotion place - and no one is clear how many will go up in the ongoing restructuring of the league above - they will not go up.
"We have hit the buffers and the wins have dried up," said frustrated boss Newton. "The players have realised that we can't get promoted and I think that has affected them.
"An application went in but our ground is not ready yet. No one has said as much but psychologically it must have made a difference. But we still have two big games against Armthorpe Welfare for the chance of a trophy and I want a minimum third or fourth place finish in the league."
The manager also explained why midfielder and free-kick specialist Nicky Boshell will not be available for tomorrow's trip to Lincoln Moorlands Railway in the Premier Division.
"His brother plays for Grimsby Town and he has gone down to Wembley to watch him play in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final against the MK Dons.
"It will be a fantastic day out for Nicky. His brother may have a winners' medal from the home of football to show for it.
"Either way, it will be an unforgettable day for them and no doubt the rest of the family so good luck to them."
