Guiseley safely through FA Cup replay
11:56pm Tuesday 9th October 2012 in Liversedge By Ian Whiting
Guiseley 3, Colwyn Bay 1
Guiseley hit back from a goal down to beat league rivals Colwyn Bay and book their place in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.
It was the Blue Square Bet North counterparts’ third meeting of the season and the Lions found themselves behind on the half-hour mark after Rob Hopley, who had scored the Welsh side’s goal in Saturday’s 1-1 draw which led to tonight’s replay, broke the deadlock.
Early in the second half a Wayne Brooksby effort hit a post but the Guiseley man was not to be denied and he rattled in a quick-fire brace to put his side in front.
Bay were reduced to ten men after former Chelsea player Frank Sinclair was sent off and the hosts later added a third goal through Gavin Rothery.
FC Halifax Town join their neighbours in the next round after they won at home by the same scoreline in their replay against league rivals Chester.
Guiseley will host Hednesford Town or Buxton (who replay tomorrow night) while Halifax travel to Blue Square Premier outfit Lincoln City in the next round a week on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Farsley racked up a fourth win on the trot in Evo-Stik League Division One North as they romped to a 5-0 victory at Wakefield.
The visitors were 2-0 up at the break after Adam Priestley’s early opener and Ryan Watson’s strike 20 minutes later.
James Riley netted the first of the second half before Adam Muller and young reserve Sam Robinson weighed in with further goals.
Liversedge must have thought Danny Toronczak’s 87th-minute strike at home to Glasshoughton Welfare had won their Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division clash but the visitors hit back in injury time to snatch a 2-2 draw.
Marcus Edwards, Eccleshill United’s top scorer last season, had given Welfare an early lead but Tate Williams cancelled that out on the quarter-hour mark.
Toronczak put Sedge in front but former Silsden player John Douglas levelled for Glasshoughton just into stoppage time.
Eccleshill host Askern Villa in Baris Northern Counties East League Division One tomorrow night.
