Liversedge on the Road seeking a perfect nine
The clubs at steps five and six return to league action this weekend following an excursion in the FA Cup last Saturday, and most of the locals will be glad of the opportunity to pick up points.
All except Liversedge, of course, as they had a flawless beginning to their campaign before exiting the FA Cup at the weekend.
Sedge started the Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division season with six points from two games.
But their loss in the cup was a wake-up call for new manager Eric Gilchrist and his players, coming as it did at home.
It might be good for the healing process that they are on the road on Saturday, travelling to Hall Road Rangers in search of a perfect nine.
Thackley are also licking their wounds following a home cup defeat but they will have to face the wrath of their home support if they fail to beat Barton Town Old Boys at Dennyfield.
The Dennyboys won their opening game but lost their second, at promotion favourites Scarborough Athletic the following midweek.
The third of the top flight trio, Brighouse Town, also took three points from their first two league games and they have home advantage over Tadcaster Albion on Saturday.
Town have no trouble scoring, averaging two goals a game, but they are having problems conceding, having shipped in seven so far.
In the lower tier, Eccleshill United travel to Teversal and will be buoyant following their 4-2 victory over Glasshoughton Welfare in the FA Cup last weekend. The Eagles make the short trip to Brighouse in the next round a week on Saturday.
It was Town who beat Silsden to land a second cup derby so the Cobbydalers themselves are going into the weekend needing a boost.
They host Norton United in the North West Counties League top flight. Chris Reape’s side are another that have won one and lost one in the league so far.
