Cold snap thwarts several local clubs

Five of the local clubs missed out on any Saturday action after the severe dip in temperature on Friday.

BRADFORD PARK AVENUE’S home game against Buxton in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division was one of the first confirmed casualties.

They remained sixth in the table though as none of the top eight clubs picked up a win.

Leading duo Chester and Northwich Victoria were involved in the FA Trophy second round. Chester were beaten but Northwich will be in tomorrow’s draw alongside Guiseley.

In Division One, Farsley AFC were left frustrated as well after their home clash with Radcliffe Borough was also off due to a frozen pitch.

Neil Parsley’s men remain third in the table after four of the 11 scheduled fixtures were called off.

There was a change at the summit as Fylde won 7-0 to overhaul Curzon Ashton, who were also frozen out, on goal difference. Farsley are just four points behind the leading pair.

Meanwhile, Eccleshill UNITED chairman of football Adrian Benson said their pitch was “frozen solid” as the home fixture against Shirebrook Town was confirmed as off following an 11.30am pitch inspection.

That was one of five out of eight Baris Northern Counties East League games in Division One that fell by the wayside.

But the Eagles remain seventh and ALBION SPORTS, who did not have a scheduled fixture, stay in second place.

The only real change came as Pontefract Collieries won 5-1 at Askern Villa to stretch their lead over Albion to four points.

But Kulwinder Sandhu’s men and Ian Bank’s Eccleshill both now have five games in hand over Brendan Ormsby’s Pontefract.

LIVERSEDGE’S home game against Barton Town Old Boys in the Premier Division was another NCE League fixture that had to be shelved following a lunchtime pitch inspection.

In the North West Counties League Premier Division, SILSDEN were left wishing there had been a lunchtime inspection at AFC Liverpool.

The Cobbydalers’ game was called off but secretary Jim Rosser felt it was at too short notice.

Rosser said: “It was 20 minutes to two o’clock. That’s ridiculous as the players were a mile away from the ground by then and we (the club officials) were about five miles away. It was totally avoidable.”
