It was a good Boxing Day for Brighouse TOWN at LIVERSEDGE in the big Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division derby.
But it was not such a good one for referee Alan Hull, who lasted just over an hour before picking up an injury.
Brighouse ran out 5-2 winners in an entertaining game at Clayborn that finished ten minutes late due to man in the middle having to go off. Steve Berry, one of his assistants, had to take over the whistle.
Tom Matthews had given Town a second-minute lead but Sedge skipper Daryll Leach levelled before an own goal edged the hosts in front.
Brighouse hit back strongly with goals from Luke Gibson and Daniel Nadiole.
There were then second goals for both Gibson and Matthews, in the last minute, as Town extended the points gap between the two local rivals into double figures.
There was no joy for Thackley at Dennyfield as Nostell MW snatched all three points with a 2-1 victory.
Nostell hit the home side with two goals in quick succession to lead 2-0 inside 17 minutes.
James Eyles tucked in a shot after Dennyboys keeper Matt Convey could only parry an effort.
The same player then turned provider when Graham Marchant doubled the advantage.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Thackley in front of goal until they eventually got one back through Mark Bett ten minutes into the second half.
But more poor finishing and bad luck condemned them to a third straight league defeat.
ALBION SPORTS remain top of Division One after a 3-2 victory in their home derby against neighbours ECCLESHILL UNITED.
Kulwinder Sandhu’s men edged a thriller to bank maximum points thanks to Anil Singh’s late winner.
The Eagles deservedly led at the break after Charlie Flaherty had scored the only goal of the first half but Albion levelled soon after the break through Joel Etienne.
An Albion goal by Aron Heywood and one for Jermaine Springer in reply had it all square going into stoppage time, when Singh snatched the decider.
