Liversedge were delighted to land Sean Regan as manager following Steve Newton’s resignation at the end of last season but are equally pleased that Newton will remain at Clayborn.

Sedge secretary Brian Oakes admitted it was important for the club that they did not lose such a valued member of staff.

Oakes said: “He is a very good football man and a genuinely nice fellow. He has joined the committee and I’m sure he will have a lot of input as we try to take the club forward.

“Because our top priority was the manager’s job, the only pre-season friendly we had pencilled in was a visit from Ossett Town. But since Sean has been involved, we have built up a full pre-season fixture list.”

Leeds Met Carnegie, Harrogate Railway Athletic, neighbours Bradford Park Avenue and a Scunthorpe United XI have all confirmed visits to Clayborn.

Meanwhile, Newton is not the only replacement Sedge have had to consider during the close season.

Oakes explained: “Our physio has left us as well. She is going to a bigger club at a higher level.

“We are currently looking for someone who is qualified and would benefit from working with sports injuries to volunteer for the position.

“It can be a very rewarding job and also provide experience that will lead to better career prospects somewhere down the line.”
