New Liversedge manager Sean Regan is getting his teeth into the job even though it is the close season.

The Sedge committee only made the appointment just over a week ago but Regan has already begun talking to players and formulating his pre-season training regime.

Club secretary Brian Oakes said: “Sean really impressed the committee at his interview with his enthusiasm and direction. Obviously we have known of him for a long while and have heard all about his excellent coaching qualifications.

“He had one season here when Trevor Best was manager. He was a striker but in his year with us as a player we didn’t see the best of him because of his work commitments.

“It always helps when the face across the interview table is a familiar one but that didn’t make it a one-horse race. We had some very strong candidates for the job, ten in total, but we had to narrow it down to a shortlist of six.

“Sean’s overall attitude, in-depth answers and plans for the future really tipped the balance in his favour. He is very knowledgeable and a likeable chap. He will help the club at every level.

“He certainly wants to bring fresh players in with him. He has contacts in the UniBond League and at various clubs in the Football League.

“Sean has strong desires to improve our squad but also has some very good young players in situ.”
