The hierarchy at Clayborn are expecting to have a new management regime in place in plenty of time to plan for the new season.

Sedge invited applications to succeed Steve Newton, who resigned at the end of the season after two years at the helm.

The committee will convene tomorrow morning to sift through the CVs that came in before today's deadline.

Club secretary Brian Oakes said: “We have a shortlist of six that we are discussing and we are hoping that the interview process will begin on Tuesday. Five have responded and we hope they can all be interviewed on the same day.

“It is still a very busy time for all the clubs, so the difficult thing is making all the arrangements.

“I’m very pleased with the quality of the applicants and there may have to be a second round of interviews before a decision is made. We want to be sure that we get the best man for the job.”

Even if the appointment is delayed another week it will still give the new man the whole of the summer to mould the squad.

Sedge are in the same situation as most clubs and expect changes to the playing staff every close season regardless of the managerial changes.

Oakes added: “The rest of us are still working on sponsor deals before next season so we can formulate the budget and as always we are trying to drum up new avenues of financial support.”
