LIVERSEDGE'S league match at home to Hall Road rangers was abandoned last night after one of their players had a seizure.

Craig Billington had started the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division game but had a seizure on the pitch and then felt worse when he was sitting in the dugout, leading to the game being abandoned after 78 minutes.

Billington was taken to hospital and later tweeted: "Hi all, thank you for the tweets and text and concern. Just letting you know. I had a seizure while playing and as I’ve come off it’s got worse. Thankfully all @Liversedge_FC and the lad @HRRFC helped out a lot and then of course the paramedics. Feeling tired and head ache....."

He added this morning: "Hopefully no knock on effects. again thank you for all the tweets and texts of well wishes and I’ll be back playing soon!"

Liversedge issued a short statement last night: “Thanks for all your kind thoughts tonight.

“Our game against Hall Road Rangers was abandoned after about 78 minutes due to an incident affecting our player Craig Billington. He is now on his way to hospital and his girlfriend is with him.

“We trust he is now in the best hands.”

The incident was relayed via social media and all of the messages coming back to the club were of well wishes for the player.

Liversedge are due to play at home again tonight against Staveley Miners' Welfare, but that may now be subject to change and Staveley were one of the first to express their concern for the player.

The Hall Road rangers match was 3-3 at the time, with Josh Greenhalgh bagging a hat-trick for the hosts, and the result may be allowed to stand given the circumstances and the schedule Liversedge are facing with at least six more games to be completed before the end of the season.
