Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One: Campion 1 Eccleshill United 2

ECCLESHILL United won the big Bradford derby in Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One but the black and reds can hold their heads up after a close game in front of almost 200 at the sportsbulk.co.uk Stadium.

The win for the Eagles means that they strengthened their grip on second spot and the automatic promotion place that goes with it, but Campion are not yet out of the hunt for a play-off place as they have nine points still to play for.

Charlie Flaherty went close to breaking the deadlock on the quarter-hour but his scissor kick struck the frame of the home side’s goal.

The visitors’ Luke Harrop was thwarted by a superb save when he sent in a 25-yard free-kick just before the hour.

Campion eventually opened the scoring minutes after the break.

A header was cleared off the line by the visitors’ defence and then a shot from the rebound came back off a post before Ben Kendal finally put the ball in the net.

Just five minutes later, the Eagles were level as Harrop’s speculative deep cross-cum-shot found the top corner at the far post.

James Bicknell’s black and reds had their visitors on the back foot around the hour and created a few good chances, but Eccleshill netted the all- important winner when Antony Brown converted Andy Cooper’s pin-point 80th-minute cross with a downward header.

Liversedge came back from 2-0 down to beat Bridlington Town 3-2 in the Premier Division.

Brid took a 14th-minute lead through Jake Day at Clayborn, and Joel Sutton doubled the visitors’ lead soon after the half-hour but Connor Beaumont pegged one back before the break.

If Jonathan Rimmington’s men had been on the back foot in that first half, they were certainly the aggressors after the break.

Rhys Davies had them level just three minutes into the second half and Jordan Windass netted a 67th-minute winner.

Brighouse Town also enjoyed a home victory as they beat Clitheroe 2-0 in Evo-Stik Division One North, hauling themselves to third from bottom in the process.

Vill Powell’s men edged in front against the Blues when a half-cleared corner on the hour was played back into the area, and Adam Field slotted under the visitors’ keeper.

Danny Naidole began the night on the bench but had a big part to play.

He replaced Lewis Riley on 61 minutes, and 12 minutes from time he made all three points safe for Town when he headed into the bottom corner.
