HEAVY overnight rain on Good Friday decimated the Easter weekend’s fixture lists and left six of the area’s semi-professional clubs kicking their heels on Saturday which will only add to their already congested run-in.

Four of the clubs thwarted by the weather were due to have home game while two should have travelled. All of those rearrangements will cause problems but Liversedge are the club facing the worst case scenario.

Brighouse Town’s home game against Clitheroe in the Evo-Stik League Division One North was the highest profile casualty but all five of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League’s were also sidelined due to waterlogged pitches.

Albion Sports were due to host Bridlington Town and Thackley should have hosted Rainworth MW while Liversedge had a scheduled trip to Penistone Church but all three NCEL Premier Division fixtures were shelved.

In the lower tier, second-placed Eccleshill United’s home game against FC Bolsover and Campion’s away game at Selby Town were both called off. All five of the NCEL clubs will have to wait for their next game while Brighouse will make the short journey to Ossett Town tomorrow for a keen derby.

Ossett are much higher in the Evo-Stik Division One North than relegation threatened Brighouse but they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Colne on Saturday. That will mean they are a wounded animal and even more dangerous hosts for Vill Powell’s men.

Of the clubs in the NCEL none are more concerned about their remaining games than Liversedge. Jonathan Rimmington’s men already have 11 games scheduled for April and away games against Bottesford Town and Penistone still to rearrange.

The NCEL want all of their fixtures completed before the end of the month which means Sedge face 13 games in four weeks and one of those fixtures is a cup tie so potentially the club could be facing 14 games in 30 days, or more if they continue to progress in the NCEL Cup. Their nightmare April begins with the home derby against Thackley on Tuesday.
