LIVERSEDGE manager Jonathan Rimmington has been left cursing his side's misfortune after recent postponements left them with an horrendous run-in until the end of the season.

Starting tomorrow, they will have to play 17 Premier Division fixtures in 49 days before the April 28 deadline in the Northern Counties East League.

Their NCE League Cup fourth-round tie at Dronfield Town makes it 18 guaranteed fixtures. That is due to take place a week on Monday – and if they win, further games will be added to the list.

Liversedge have only played 25 league games so far, the least in the division, whereas leaders AFC Mansfield have already played 33 times.

Sedge suffered postponements against Bottesford and Garforth this week as their fixture pile-up continues to grow.

Rimmington lamented: "We don't have a reserve side, an under-19s or 21s. Lads work and we will have lads who will get injured and I don't know where we go with it.

"The league say it has to be finished by the last day of April but our players will end up playing Saturday-Monday-Wednesday-Saturday.

"It's absolutely horrendous but I don't know what can be done."

Another issue for Liversedge is the amount of travel. After taking on Bridlington at Clayborn tomorrow, they face five away fixtures in ten days – and seven before the end of the month.

With several of those games taking place in midweek, Rimmington must be fearful he will not be able take 11 fit and available players on those long coach journeys.

Sedge signed Glyn Cotton from Pontefract Collieries last week to give their squad a much-needed boost.

But the manager could do with several more acquisitions before he feels comfortable with tackling their current fixture list.

Yet if you think Liversedge have been unfortunate, then spare a thought for 1874 Northwich, who play in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Due to postponements and their run to the FA Vase semi-finals, they have only completed only 20 league games to date and have more than half of their season left to play.
