LIVERSEDGE pulled off the result of the day in the Premier Division of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League as they gave leaders AFC Mansfield a bloody nose.

Sedge ended the Bulls’ 18-game unbeaten run in emphatic style with a 5-1 win at Mansfield’s Forest Town Stadium.

The hosts could only hold their hands up and wish Jonathan Rimmington’s men all the best for the remainder of the season following Sedge’s deserved victory.

Joe Walton opened the scoring just after the quarter-hour before the division’s leading scorer, Oliver Fearon, equalised for the Bulls.

Sedge still took a lead into the break, however, as Walton bagged a first-half brace.

Brandon Kane made it 3-1, virtually from the re-start, and home keeper Jason White was beaten by Jacob Buchanan and, late in the game, by Rhys Davies as Sedge romped to victory.

Rimmington said: “What can I say? Every one of the lads was excellent  but we know that we have that in us.

"A great pitch and I have to say that it suited our style – now on to Tuesday (at Staveley Miners' Welfare), the standards have been set.”

The home side edged the day’s big derby as Thackley earned the bragging rights over Albion Sports after a 1-0 win at Dennyfield.

Luke Robinson hit the only goal of the game 12 minutes from time.

It had been an open and even first half but the Dennyboys edged the second period, and Thackley’s joint player manager Mike Garrod was man of the match.

It was Garrod’s low cross that provided Robinson with his opening.

There was more good news for the Dennyboys as Nicky Matthews completed his comeback from injury with an appearance from the bench.

A late goal from debutant Aran Basi gave Eccleshill United all three points from the visit of East Yorkshire Carnegie in Division One.

Basi, who only completed his move from Albion Sports the day before the game, claimed the winner with a late header.

An 88th-minute corner had only been half-cleared and Basi netted as the ball was crossed back in.

The debutant’s strike spared the blushes of Luke Harrop, who had seen his first half penalty saved.

Harrop stabbed the rebound in but had fouled the stopper in the process.

The win saw the second-placed Eagles close the gap on leaders Knaresborough Town as they were held to a home draw by Winterton Rangers.

Knaresborough’s lead is now six points with 12 games remaining.

Campion’s game in the same division was postponed as Glasshoughton Welfare’s pitch failed an 11am inspection.
