LIVERSEDGE were denied a game in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division last night following a tea-time pitch inspection at Harrogate Railway Athletic.

The Station View playing surface was waterlogged after heavy downpours on Tuesday and the match was postponed.

Both clubs were already frustrated after the stop-start nature of the December fixtures.

Jonathan Rimmington’s Sedge lost their last game of last year and their first of this year to the weather.

They were due to host Pickering Town on Saturday, December 30 and travel to Staveley Miners' Welfare last Wednesday, but frost and rain meant that both games were called off.

The Rail, and recently-appointed boss Marlon Adams, were hoping for a home game to build some momentum as they looked for back-to-back victories.

Adams inherited a side in the bottom three and they remain there despite Saturday’s 4-2 win at Athersley Recreation.

Sedge had earned a point from an eight-goal thriller in a tough game at Worksop Town, so they were also in good spirits and looking forward to getting back out on the pitch.

Thackley, who were knocked out of the NCE League Cup the previous night, will have had an eye on last night’s proceedings as they are the next visitors to Station View.

The Dennyboys are scheduled to make the short trip into North Yorkshire to take on the Rail this Saturday.
