LIVERSEDGE will finally get their Buildbase FA Vase first-round tie played tonight after the initial meeting at Ashton Athletic was abandoned after 70 minutes when Storm Brian intervened last Saturday and Tuesday’s re-arrangement was shelved.

The clubs, from the same step on the football pyramid - Sedge are in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League's top tier while their Ashton-in-Makerfield hosts are in the Premier Division of the Hallmark Security League - must play to a conclusion tonight.

Sedge trailed 3-0 when the game was curtailed due to an increasingly waterlogged pitch, but boss Jonathan Rimmington insists that he will have more players available for this meeting and promises a better performance.

He said: “We had a nightmare in the first half at Ashton but were doing all right at the start of the second half before the referee had no option but to abandon it.

“It’s difficult because of the on-off, on-again, on-a-completely-different- night carry on but we might have a stronger squad than we did last Saturday.

"We will go there and give it our best and we know a little bit more about them now after that 70 minutes.”

The winners will host Northern League leaders Morpeth Town in the second round on Saturday, November 11.
