Evo-Stik Division One North: Brighouse Town 4 Ossett Albion 2

BRIGHOUSE Town banked a much-needed win and moved into double figures in the points column in Evo-Stik Division One North with a victory in last night’s derby against Ossett Albion.

The Unicorns were one of just five clubs below Town ahead of kick-off, but Vill Powell’s men ensured that they left the Yorkshire Pay Stadium with nothing.

It was Albion’s fifth defeat in five away games this term.

Brighouse led 2-0 at the break after Adam Shaw headed home Tom Haigh’s 27th-minute free-kick and Adam Jones lashed in a volley from the edge of the area just minutes before the half-time whistle.

The visitors pegged one back through Ross Hardaker early in the second half but a brace from Jack Normanton made the game safe.

Jones did the hard work before playing the through ball for Hardaker’s first, and his second was a tap-in after the Unicorns’ keeper failed to get enough of a hand onto a ball in the area and only diverted it into the path of the substitute.

Kieran Scargill netted a late consolation for the visitors but they remain in the relegation placesm while Town climbed to 15th.

Farsley Celtic could claim the leadership in the Premier Division tonight but they face a tough game at an Altrincham side that were in the Vanarama National League set up last term.

The Robins are still finding their feet in their new surroundings and are mid-table with 13 points from eight games.

The Celts went second with a 3-1 home win over Halesowen Town at the weekend, but dropped to third yesterday when Shaw Lane leap-frogged them and Warrington Town with a narrow home win over Workington.

Farsley are just one point behind the new leaders, and with Warrington sidetracked by an FA Cup replay this midweek, Adam Lakeland’s men would claim top spot with a win tonight.

Liversedge are also back in action as they host Worksop Town in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Sedge had a free weekend, so their last game was the rescheduled Buildbase FA Vase tie at Prestwich Heys last midweek.

Jonathon Rimmington’s men won that first qualifying round tie 2-1 thanks to a brace from Tom White.

Due to the amount of FA Vase and FA Cup ties and replays that Sedge have been involved in they have played exactly half the amount of league games as tonight’s visitors.

Worksop are seven points better off than Sedge, but have played ten league games already.
