Emirates FA Cup first qualifying round: Albion Sports 3 Barnoldswick Town 2

A DANNY Facey stoppage-time winner brought the house down at Throstle Nest and put Albion Sports into tomorrow's draw for the Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round at the expense of Barnoldswick Town.

The Lancashire outfit must have thought they had done enough to take the tie back over the border after forcing an equaliser just seconds into the first minute of time added on.

Relieved Albion boss Kulwinder Sandhu said: “Before the game I said to the players that it’s a cup tie - it’s all about the result, and we got it.

“They (Barnoldswick) had a lot of the ball but I don’t think we were under pressure or that our goal was under any great threat.

"We looked comfortable when we got our second goal but they kept putting the ball in our area and got their reward to get back to 2-1.

“I thought we showed great character to come back from their late equaliser and force that late winner. I’m more than happy to get away from this game with a win and be in the draw for the next round.

"It’s a few years since we’ve been this far in the competition, and it's not just the prize-money, it’s the prestige.”

The first half had been a tense affair but Sandhu’s Lions were in front by the break after Alex Cusack ended a quick counterattack with a good finish just before the half-hour.

Albion doubled their lead early in the second half when the Barlick keeper Connor King had a brain fade.

Having fallen to the turf while challenging for a cross, he hooked Facey’s leg with his hand, with the Lions’ Asif Hussain netting the resulting penalty.

It should have been game over but Joel Melia fired past home keeper Jake Lofthouse after a 63rd-minute set-piece had not been cleared.

The nerve-jangling ending was set up as Lofthouse could only parry a shot and Danny Boyle pounced to rifle the loose ball in.

But Facey’s goal two minutes later, when he rounded a defender and rolled the ball wide of the advancing King, was the all-important strike.

There was late drama in Farsley Celtic’s tie but Adam Lakeland's men were knocked out at Evo-Stik Premier Division rivals Stalybridge Celtic.

The home side took an early lead in the battle of the Celts as former Guiseley, Park Avenue and much-travelled Football League striker Liam Dickinson netted from a knock down in the 13th minute.

Farsley levelled through leading scorer James Walshaw as he netted a fine shot after a neat turn two minutes later.

The game looked to heading for a replay until a mishit shot from the home side’s Theo Bailey-Jones crept in, meaning the sides will meet at Throstle Nest on Wednesday in the league rather than in a replay.

Liversedge will also be in tomorrow's draw, but as an either-or after a goalless draw at Sunderland Ryhope CA.

Sedge host the Northern League outfit in a replay on Tuesday.
