THERE were hard-earned wins for Liversedge and Albion Sports in the Emirates FA Cup over the weekend, but the preliminary round brought nothing other than heartbreak for Brighouse Town.

New Town boss Vill Powell saw his side beaten at Evo-Stik Division One North rivals Bamber Bridge in injury time.

Second-half substitute Jamie Milligan did the damage as he came on in the 63rd minute, levelled the tie in the 85th minute and then struck the late winner.

Town made a good start as Aaron Martin slotted them into a fifth-minute lead but Brig equalised six minutes later from the penalty spot.

Matt Dudley had been fouled and former Guiseley and Avenue player Michael Potts sent Town keeper Declan Howard the wrong way.

The cup tie was marred by a bad injury to the home’s side’s Brad Carsley after the striker’s head collided with a concrete post on the perimeter fence.

There was a 25-minute delay as the paramedics treated him on the pitch and the ambulance arrived to take him to Preston Hospital.

Town’s player-coach Nat Brown came on as a first change for the visitors early in the second half, and he headed home Dan Grimshaw’s 56th- minute corner.

Town led until the last few minutes before Milligan spotted Howard off his line and netted from the halfway line.

Milligan’s winner was no less spectacular as he rifled in a free-kick off the post just into stoppage time to send Brig through.

The Preston-based club later confirmed that Carsley was recovering well.

Albion Sports will be in the first qualifying round after they beat Northern League outfit Newton Aycliffe 2-1 at Throstle Nest.

Omar Habeeb put the home side ahead in the 17th minute, and he turned provider as his good work led to Danny Facey making it 2-0 before the break.

It was a tough tie, and Grant Soulsby pegged one back for the visitors late on to make it a nervy ending.

Albion boss Kulwinder Sandhu said: “We had to work hard. It was a difficult game but we scraped through.

“They are a good side but we got goals and defended well. Any win in the FA Cup is a good one and were looking forward to the next round.”

Liversedge also went through after a last-gasp winner at Brighouse’s Evo-Stik League counterparts Ramsbottom United.

The higher-ranking hosts took the lead through Jerome Wright but Devonte Morton hit back before the break.

The Lancashire outfit regained the lead through Lee Gaskill, but Roy Fogarty netted in the penultimate minute and just into stoppage time to give Sedge a 3-2 win.
