LIVERSEDGE are making another attempt to break their record crowd figure for a competitive game when they host Garforth Town on Tuesday.

The current record attendance at Clayborn is 14 short of a thousand and the four-figure mark is the aim for Sedge. They made appeals through social media last season when they hosted Bridlington Town but they fell short.

The main stand seats 250 and there is another covered stand behind the goal at the clubhouse end but the ground capacity is 2000 so no one is expecting a sell-out.

A club spokesman said: “It’s out first home league game of the season and there are no games for Bradford City, Huddersfield Town or Leeds United so if people are looking to take in a game they’re more than welcome.

“It’s a game against one of our local rivals so it should be a good one and there should be a lot of locals from Bradford and Leeds interested. The bar will be open, the clubhouse has a food outlet and we’ll have an outside caterer selling burgers and chips and things for the extra demand.”

Sedge have been through some tough times of late but have maintained their place in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division. Under current manager Jonathan Rimmington they topped the table in the early stages of last season.

The club has had negative feedback from the football authorities regarding access to the ground and they have sought help from the council in a bid to avoid any relegation or demotion on ground grading criteria.

They were formed over a hundred years ago (in 1910) and have played their football at the ground for as long but their continued existence at their home is threatened.

Local residents have lodged complaints regarding the traffic to the club’s car park along Quaker Lane.
