FARSLEY Celtic will be looking for a different kind of test as they make the short trip to Eccleshill United for their second warm-up game after hosting York City last weekend.

The Celts were beaten 4-1 by the Minstermen but the bright spark was James Walshaw as he picked up where he left off last term, scoring the home side’s only goal.

Walshaw was Farsley’s leading scorer in last season’s double West Riding County Cup and Evo-Stik Division One North play-off triumph.

The Throstle Nest outfit are preparing for a return to the Evo-Stik Premier Division following their promotion but they suffered a blow when midfielder Jordan Deacey was injured ten minutes into his and the club’s first pre-season run out.

The Eagles also lost their opening friendly, going down 6-1 at home to Shaw Lane, while their double winner from the last campaign – Charlie Flaherty, who was named players’ player of the year and supporters’ player of the year – was sat in the stand with an injury.

Flaherty stubbed his toe on the staircase at home just days before the Eagles’ first pre-season game. It was a huge frustration but he hasn’t ruled himself out of Saturday’s clash with the Celts.

Thackley will be making their first pre-season appearance when they travel to Knaresborough Town, while Liversedge have a second run-out at home. Sedge hosted local club Oakenshaw on Tuesday and racked up double figures in a 10-0 win.

Jonathan Rimmington’s men should face a tougher test tomorrow against Immingham Town.

There is a friendly derby as Silsden take on Campion at the Cobbydale Construction Stadium. The Cobbydalers were beaten 3-0 at home by Yorkshire Amateur last weekend while Campion followed up their 6-1 home loss to Bradford Park Avenue with a defeat by the odd goal in midweek as they were beaten 4-3 by Evo-Stik League outfit Ossett Albion.
