CAN Liversedge "do a Leicester" is the question on the lips of anyone who has a passing interest in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League.

The parallels are there with The Foxes incredible rise from relegation battlers one season to Premier League winners the next.

Jonathan Rimmington’s Sedge sit top of the Premier Division - a position that observers are already dismissing as a fluke.

But Rimmington is unperturbed by the idle chatter and feels his squad can stay ahead of the pack.

He said: “We’re doing all right don’t worry about that. It’s a funny league this year but that doesn’t mean we’ve been lucky or we won’t keep the challenge going. I just look at some of the other clubs and their squads and feel they are in transition and not quite as strong as they have been traditionally.

“We have got some very good players and two of them are in the league’s top goalscorers list. I’ve changed my outlook as well after spending a year in this division as a manager.

“When I started I wanted to play pass, pass, pass football and work the opposition but some of the teams in this league are made up of ex-pros and tough lads, street battlers, all vastly-experienced players.

“They were soaking up our pressure, playing on the break and killing us. We try to play more in the final third of the pitch now and we are creating a lot of chances.

“We should have won most of the games that we’ve either drawn or lost this season with one exception and that was the first game when we lost at home to Guisborough in the FA Cup.

“Teams get to know what you’ve got and they play a different way to counteract it. But if we can keep the lads fit I believe that our best 11 would beat any side in this league and give the ones in the league above a run for their money.”
