FARSLEY CELTIC began their season with a hard fought 1-0 home win over Colwyn Bay on the opening day of the Evo-Stik League season.

The Welsh outfit are Division One North title favourites following their relegation last term. It was a close and entertaining clash with both sides creating chances but the home side netted the all important strike.

A raking long through-ball set Aiden Savory on his way and the striker finished well, chipping over Bay keeper Shaun Pearson.

There was also a home victory for BRIGHOUSE TOWN as they beat Radcliffe Borough 2-0 in what was another close encounter. Paul Quinn’s men took the lead in the second minute through an own goal and wrapped up the scoring with a second-half penalty.

Boro skipper and centre back Reece Lyndon inadvertently turned a Lee Spires corner past his own keeper while Luke Parkin netted from the spot after Fernando Moke had been fouled in the area.

The match was overshadowed by a bad injury to Boro’s Emmanuel Dube-Palmer. The right back suffered a suspected broken leg and play was held up for 13 minutes while he received treatment.

LIVERSEDGE were a goal to the good at home to Armthorpe Welfare at half-time in their Northern Counties East League Premier Division clash and went goal crazy after the break to run out 5-0 winners.

Vaughan Redford netted minutes before the half-hour and Rhys Davies doubled Sedge’s lead three minutes into the second half. Joe Walton and Tom Jackson struck within minutes of each other and Stephen Wales made it a nap hand.

THACKLEY were also a goal up at half-time after Dan Broadbent gave them the lead at Cleethorpes Town. But the Dennyboys slipped to a 2-1 defeat as the home side hit back after the interval through Luke Mascall before Marc Cooper netted Cleethorpe’s winner two minutes from time.

CAMPION and ECCLESHILL UNITED are still first and second respectively in Division One after both won again.

Campion seized the initiative early on at Selby Town as goals from Steve Hollingworth and Eli Hey saw them two goals up just five minutes in. Hey struck his second in the second half of the 3-0 away victory.

Luke Harrop returned to form for the Eagles as he bagged a brace in a 3-2 home win over Grimsby Borough. Adam Turner broke the deadlock but Adam Dury levelled before the break.

Harrop netted his brace inside three minutes around the hour mark before Dury pegged another back for the visitors.

SILSDEN spanked visitors Ashton Town 6-0 as Chris Wademan, Josh Kane and Will Storrie hit three first-half goals while Josh McNulty, substitute Leon Smith and Luke Richardson were all on target after the break.
