LIVERSEDGE ended their season on a high with a 2-1 victory at Retford United last night, despite going a goal down.

Brad Johnson had given the home side an early lead but Rob Thomas put Sedge on terms minutes before half-time interval.

They then had a long time to wait but Joe Walton bagged the winner in the penultimate minute.

The three points saw Sedge leapfrog their hosts and finish 14th in the final Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division table.

Albion Sports played their final match of the season but they had hoped that they would have another fixture at the weekend.

The Lions suffered a narrow defeat at Tadcaster Albion in the League Cup semi-finals.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s men were also a goal up before losing 2-1 as Tadcaster, who had landed the Premier Division title, booked their place in the final.

The Lions had the ball in the net in the 36th minute but Matt Mathers’ strike, from Omar Habib’s through ball, was ruled out for offside.

But just two minutes later, Lewis Morgan opened the scoring with a shot from outside the area after Alex Cusack’s pass had picked him out.

Taddy hit back on the stroke of half time when Albion’s keeper Kyle Trennery did well to parry a good shot around his post, only for Tom Corner to head home the resulting flag-kick.

Former Bradford Park Avenue striker Corner turned provider as his header across the box set up Josh Greening for Taddy’s winner.

Albion substitute Danny Cunningham hit the bar late on as Sandhu’s men threatened to take the tie into extra-time but the home side ran the clock down expertly to keep their double hopes alive.

Title winners Tadcaster will face Cleethorpes Town, who finished third in the league, in Saturday’s final at Garforth Town’s ground.
