YET another frustrating postponement for both Thackley and Liversedge in midweek brought the focus back on the Toolstation Northern Counties East League's decision not to extend the season.

Following the wettest winter in recent memory, other leagues at the same level – including the North West Counties, where Silsden play their football – have given their clubs an extra week.

Thackley had been due to host Glasshoughton Welfare in a League Cup fourth-round tie, while Sedge were looking for a home win against mid-table Clipstone that would have lifted Jonathan Rimmington's men out of the Premier Division drop zone.

The next round of the League Cup sees either the Dennyboys or Glasshoughton at home to Bridlington Town. That quarter-final was due to be played on Monday but must now be shelved.

Second-bottom Sedge have no remaining interest in any cup competition but still have eight league games remaining in which to preserve their top-flight status. They must play all of those games before the end on the month, which will make life difficult at Clayborn.

Any more wet weather over the next three weeks would bring even more fixture chaos, unless the NCE have a change of heart and look into granting an extra seven days.
