LIVERSEDGE have put the wheels in motion to do long overdue ground work now that funds are available after being awarded a grant.

Sedge were one of three clubs chosen by Hyundai UK for a £5,000 cash injection and are discussing with the car company how that can be spent.

First team coach Darren Atwood said: “When we got the news that we were one of the clubs it was absolutely fantastic. We went in for it at a late stage and to even be short-listed was a surprise.

“The company is making a record of everything that is going to take place. They sent a production crew to the ground on Thursday and they wanted to know about the history of the club and how we came to be in this predicament, they wanted to know all about the background of the club.

“They are making a film, a documentary if you like, and they will be filming bits and pieces and coming back for our home game on April 7 to complete their filming.”

Some of the experts that Hyundai have consulted have already been to the ground and made recommendations. Plans have been drawn up and the pitch will undergo drainage work later this month.

Attwood added: “Someone that looks after some Premier League grounds in Lancashire came last week and he has set out a programme. It will start with the sand strips to join the drainage channels up and continue right through to re-seeding.

“That will all be done without affecting the games we have remaining. It has to be because we have got loads of games to get in.

“But we’ve been told that the pitch will be fine for our home game on March 31.”
