LIVERSEDGE finally returned to their own patch on Tuesday night for a truly triumphant homecoming.

They marked the occasion with a morale-boosting 3-1 victory that sent everyone from two-goal hero Jimmy Rules to the kitman home happy.

The pitch problems at Clayborn have been well documented and, following a 4-3 win against promotion-chasing Barton Town on Halloween, November, December, January and February all came and went without any action at Sedge’s home ground.

With eight games in hand on some of their rivals but rock-bottom of the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division, the atmosphere around the club was flat but the midweek win over Pontefract Collieries provided a lift.

The weekend had started badly with a planned visit from local MP Jo Cox being cancelled at short notice.

The Labour member for the constituency was due to visit last Friday to lend her support to Sedge’s plight but heavy snow on the day led to a cancellation.

The scheduled home game against high-flying Worksop Town the following day was postponed but just days later – 129 days after their last home game – it all came good for Jonathan Rimmington and his men.

It could have been a perfect week had they got the news they were looking for yesterday.

Sedge have been short-listed for a £5,000 grant from Hyundai UK and the winner was due to be announced then but the decision was delayed after the car company requested added information from one of the applicants.
