JUST one pitch failed a morning inspection as the area's nine clubs on the football pyramid looked to beat the weather – but the elements still had the final word as four of the nine matches were affected.

The most frustrating came in the FA Trophy as Bradford Park Avenue's tie at Buxton was abandoned at half-time following a torrential downpour.

The two clubs will make a second attempt to complete the third qualifying-round tie on Tuesday night.

Avenue and Buxton entered discussions as to rescheduling the tie as soon as the referee made what was by then an inevitable decision to call off the game.

The first 45 minutes had been badly affected by the conditions and it stood at 0-0 as the players left the pitch.

The Bucks have announced that there will be free entry to all who make the journey to Silverlands for the rearranged match.

Brighouse Town suffered the same fate as their home Evo-Stik League game against Radcliffe Borough in Division One North also failed to finish.

The sides were level at 1-1 when their fixture was abandoned at the interval. Because that is a league game, there is no urgency for a rearrangement.

Silsdensuffered a late postponement as they looked to host AFC Blackpool in the Men United (North West Counties League) Cup third round.

Cobbydalers spokesman Jim Rosser said: "The match referee made the decision at quarter to two and it was the right call.

"It was playable in the morning and we had done all we could but the really heavy rain hit just at the wrong time."

Liversedge were also due to be at home but their Northern Counties East League game against Cleethorpes Town was postponed after a 10am inspection.
