Cheltenham Town 5, Guiseley 0

GUISELEY suffered a miserable trip home from Cheltenham after Gary Johnson's side put them to the sword.

It was the Lions' worst defeat in the National League as the Robins went nap and Guiseley finished with ten men.

Defender Adam Lockwood was shown a straight red card for a professional foul early in the second half after Cheltenham had raced into a two-goal lead.

Jack Munns got the assists for both of the hosts' early goals, the first of which was scored in the opening minute. Billy Waters took Munns' high through-ball, flicked it over Lions keeper Steve Drench and then nodded home.

Cheltenham's second was from a more traditional delivery as Rob Dickie met Munns' ninth minute corner with a firm header.

Guiseley regrouped and ended the first half strongly, with home keeper Dillon Phillips making good saves to deny Danny Boshell and Adam Boyes.

However, any signs of a comeback after the break were dashed by Lockwood's dismissal.

The home side were three goals to the good soon after the hour mark when Waters grabbed his second. Waters then turned provider for Munns late on and, deep into stoppage time, James Rowe netted his first for the Robins.

Meanwhile, Farsley Celtic had a late finish to their first-round Evo-Stik League Cup match against Shaw Lane Aquaforce after one of the assistant referees suffered a first-half injury and had to be replaced by a volunteer from the crowd.

The drama did not distract the Celts and they won their difficult tie against the high-flying Ducks 2-0 with goals from Aiden Savoury and Chris Howarth.

Brighouse Town also had a tough fixture but they exited the competition following a 2-0 defeat at Spennymoor Town.

After a goalless first half, the County Durham outfit secured their passage with an own goal and a Ross Morrow strike.

There was a West Riding County Cup derby at Dennyfield and it was the home side that came out on top, Thackley easing past Northern Counties East League top-tier rivals Liversedge with the help of two penalties in a 3-0 win.

Liam Hudson gave the home side a first-half lead, before Mike Garrod and Ben Beckles both netted from the spot after the interval.

Wednesday night sees NCE Premier Division counterparts Albion Sports at home to Pickering Town, who beat Sedge 2-1 last Saturday. Albion will be keen to get back into action after suffering a home postponement at the weekend.
