Pickering Town 2 Liversedge 1

WITH four of the 11 games in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division falling foul of the weather, Liversedge were glad that their trip into North Yorkshire to take on Pickering wasn’t a wasted one.

However, it was the Pikes who were smiling as Sedge’s recovery the previous week turned out to be short-lived.

Sedge had ended a run of 11 straight defeats with a hard earned 4-3 win over fifth placed Barton Town but couldn’t follow that up.

The visitors started well at Pickering’s Recreation Ground and competed in the early stages. But they went into the break a goal down after the Pikes' James Bennett broke the deadlock right on the stroke of half time.

Pickering doubled their lead 12 minutes from time when a good run from Callum Richardson ended with a lay off to Joe Danby and the full back fired a shot past the visiting keeper.

Joe Walton pegged one back with seven minutes remaining but it didn’t spark a complete comeback as the Pikes held on for a win which lifted them one place to 12th in the table.

The defeat dropped Sedge into 20th spot and they are now just four points above the drop zone.

The worrying statistic for Sedge is that they have played three games more than Armthrope Welfare, the club immediately below them, and the trapdoor, at this stage.
