ALBION Sports will be in buoyant mood when they host struggling Armthorpe Welfare tomorrow after breaking through the 30-point barrier in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division in midweek.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s men also captured the signature of Jordan Hendrie, son of Bantams legend John, this week. He put pen to paper on Wednesday but was not in the squad that won 4-3 at home to Pontefract Collieries.

Hendrie has played locally with Eccleshill United when they were involved with Mark Ellis’s RIASA (Richmond International Academic and Sports Academy).

Jordan did not make his Albion debut on a night when there were four different scorers as the Sports edged a seven-goal thriller. It was the visitors who took the lead, through Liam Radford in the third minute, but Matty Dalton soon levelled after converting Alex Cusack’s through ball.

Ponte got their noses in front again midway through the first half when Aaron Moxam netted but the home side were all square at the break courtesy of Arran Basi, who scored following a 41st minute corner.

Albion were back in front after forcing a corner from the restart to the second half, Lewis Morgan delivered the flag kick and Sam Bradley converted. Ponte were not finished and levelled the contest again through Aaron Joseph in the 73rd minute.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s men, who had been frustrated at the weekend when they had to settle for a point from a 4-4 draw at second-placed Tadcaster Albion, deservedly claimed all three points in stoppage time when Marcus Edwards netted a through ball from substitute Ferdinand Annor.

Now seventh-placed Albion could climb as high as joint third if they beat second bottom Armthorpe tomorrow and other results go their way. The visitors have taken just three points from their last six games while Albion have lost just once in their last half a dozen outings.

THACKLEY are also on a roll but will need to maintain their recent form as they host Pontefract. The Dennyboys have hauled themselves away from the danger area and are currently 14th after three wins on the trot.

Ponte are immediately below their hosts, just one point worse off, but have played two games more.

A 4-3 victory last Saturday saw LIVERSEDGE put an end to a run of 11 straight defeats in the league and they will look to build on that when they travel to inconsistent Pickering Town.

The Pikes have alternated wins and losses over their last six games.

In the lower tier ECCLESHILL UNITED will also be looking up the table after back-to-back victories.

A three-game unbeaten run for the mid-table Eagles sees them heading to sixth-placed Hallam looking to close the seven-point gap between the clubs.
