NEW Liversedge boss Jonathan Rimmington is looking forward to making the step up managing an open-age team.

Rimmington was under-19s boss at Clayborn last season and has also been in charge of Rothwell Juniors and Leeds City’s youngsters.

He was appointed manager of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division side’s first team following the departure of Alan Colquhoun and his assistant Mark Greaves at the end of the last campaign.

Rimmington said: “It’s going to be a challenge for me but I played semi-pro soccer and I’ve run my own businesses for years, so I know how to talk to people.

“There won’t be any problems with man management and I’m a good coach, so we will play football and play it from the back. A lot of the players at the club have come a long way with me over the past few years.

“I was going to Bradford Park Avenue’s under-19s side – I was approached by Kevin Hainsworth and we had discussions – but then Sedge asked me down here and, from the first time I came in, I just felt at home.

“It’s a good club but we need some new committeemen to take it forward. They are looking for a new chairman now and they’ll be hoping when someone comes forward that he will get a few more people involved.

“The current committee work hard but they’re all older end now. They’ve done their bit and they have earned their rest. Bob (Gawthorpe) is in his 70s now and he’s down at the ground every day.”

Rimmington knows the enormity of the task ahead of him and he is ploughing his energy into the role.

The life-long Leeds United fan has put the rest of his interests and pastimes on hold.

“My wife asked me not to take the job because she knows what I’m like,” said Rimmington.

“Whatever I do I always give it 100 per cent and this will be no different and I’m into it already.

"I’ve been down at the ground most days doing all sorts from mowing the pitch to working out all the pre-season arrangements.

“We’ve got the friendly games sorted out and the players will be back in this week, which is a bit early.

"I didn’t want to be back so early but the season starts a week earlier and we’ve got the squad to get together.

“I’ve asked some new players to join us for pre-season and we might lose a few to other clubs.

"I thought we would lose a lot more when Mark got the Eccleshill job but most of the lads have assured me that they’re staying, although it looks like we might have a new back four and keeper for the coming season.

“My job is to get them playing – playing proper football.”
