Thackley suffered a heavy home defeat tonight when they were beaten 3-0 by mid-table rivals Worksop Parramore.

The Dennyboys could have pulled level on points with Worksop had they won but their visitors’ victory put them above Albion Sports on goal difference.

Luke Fletcher gave Parramore a seventh-minute lead, which Sam Smith added to just before the hour-mark.

Craig Fletcher wrapped up the scoring before Thackley were reduced to ten men as Lewis Morgan was sent off for retaliation.

The Dennyboys’ challenge had waned before tonight though, leaving them with just a top-eight finish for President’s Cup qualification next season to play for.

They travel to Staveley MW on Saturday and revenge will be on their minds.

Staveley have beaten Thackley on two previous meetings this term, winning the reverse league fixture 2-1 and knocking them out of the President’s Cup – also at Dennyfield – by the same score.

Brighouse Town are the only local club still in with a chance of gaining promotion to the Evo-Stik League but to do so they have to win the title.

Town go into Saturday’s trip to third-bottom Nostell MW in third place and a win could take them back up to second.

Town are just a point behind Barton Town with two games in hand and are eight points off leaders Tadcaster Albion but have played four matches less, so their destiny is in their own hands.

Albion Sports are without a fixture this weekend but Liversedge face a battle of the strugglers at home to Armthorpe Welfare.

Sedge may be fourth bottom but they are a healthy 16 points above the drop zone. Their opponents are just four places better off.

Eccleshill United are also at home in Division One as they host sixth-bottom Hemsworth MW.

The Eagles rattled in a nap hand as they beat Louth Town 5-0 on Wednesday in their second midweek game in quick succession.

Eccleshill had progressed to the League Cup semi-finals on Monday before skittling second-bottom Louth but boss Lee Duxbury will have to be wary of fatigue in his ranks.
