Liversedge do Brighouse Town a favour

Brighouse Town pulled themselves to within a point of Premier Division leaders Scarborough Athletic in the Baris Northern Counties East League – with a little help from neighbours Liversedge.

Town eased to a routine 3-0 win at rock-bottom Winterton Rangers but it was Sedge’s 2-2 home draw against Boro that was the shock result of the day.

Ryan Hall set Brighouse on their way with a fourth-minute opener against Winterton, with James Hurtley adding a second before the break and Hall wrapping up the scoring 12 minutes from time.

Liversedge twice came from a goal down to earn their home point against pacesetters Scarborough.

Tom Adams had given the visitors a first-half lead and although Danny Toronczak levelled just after the hour, parity lasted just over a minute as Jimmy Beadle edged Athletic back in front.

But the home side were not to be denied and Chris Hurst’s last-minute equaliser ensured their opponents did not have time to retake the lead.

Thackley lost out in their top-eight clash with Worksop Parramore when, following a fairly even and goalless first half, they were beaten 3-0 on the road.

There was some fortune about Worksop’s opener ten minutes after the interval. A Jamie Green effort stuck a defender’s head and looped just out of Thackley keeper Tom Carlisle’s reach.

Headers from Lee Holmes and Matty Thorpe saw the home side to a comfortable scoreline as the three points kept them in fourth place, while Thackley retain eighth spot.

Albion Sports dropped from second to third in Division One following a surprise 1-0 loss at Hallam.

Jonathon Wragg netted rapidly-improving Hallam’s late winner which lifted them up to 12th.
