Salts hoping to get back with a bang on top-flight return
Salts – one of the oldest clubs playing in the West Riding County Amateur League – will mark their return to the top flight after a 15-year absence with a short trip across town to play Tyersal tonight (6.15).
After finishing second behind runaway champions Lepton Highlanders last season, Salts have had to make significant changes over the summer to their changing-room facilities to be eligible to compete in the top section.
Campion start their season with a home game against Steeton . Last season’s champions Ovenden West Riding will play their early-season opening games away from home after asbestos was found in the roof of their changing rooms that were undergoing renovation to comply with FA criteria.
Albion Sports – promoted to Division One last season – begin their campaign with a home game against Hunsworth at Myra Shay, while relegated Wibsey will have to wait until next week before starting their season after their scheduled opponents Bronte Wanderers resigned from the league.
Meanwhile, Campion and Salts – who met in the Bradford & District FA Saturday Cup final last season, which Campion won 2-1 – have been drawn to meet in round two of this season’s competition.
The two clubs have also drawn each other in the Premier Division Cup, with both games scheduled for October.
